Synology Unleashes the DS425+
Synology has just announced the arrival of their latest creation, the DS425+. This compact 4-bay storage solution is designed to offer a serious punch in a relatively small package, making it an appealing option for those who need centralised storage without a colossal footprint.
“The DS425+ offers remarkable performance and capability for its size,” said Michael Wang, Product Manager at Synology. “It is an ideal choice for users with specific storage needs who still want the benefits of centralised storage.”
This new DiskStation model boasts a fixed storage configuration, capable of holding up to a whopping 80 TB of raw data. That’s a fair chunk of space, making it well-suited for smaller deployments with fairly consistent storage demands. Connectivity isn’t skimped on either, with the DS425+ featuring a 2.5GbE port alongside a standard 1GbE RJ-45 port. For those craving even more speed, there’s support for M.2 NVMe SSDs, perfect for either zippy SSD caching or an all-flash setup for maximum performance.
Built for Reliability with Synology Drives
Synology has engineered the DS425+ to deliver consistent performance and rock-solid reliability, especially when paired with their own hard drives. They’re clearly very particular about what goes into their systems, as the DS425+ adheres to a “carefully curated drive compatibility framework,” which has undergone over 7,000 hours of rigorous testing. This means that to ensure optimal integration and long-term dependability, you’ll need compatible hard drives for the DSM installation. They even have a third-party validation programme available for drive manufacturers to test their products against Synology’s stringent standards.
Personally I think any NAS should work with basically any quality NAS HDD, so this could be a problem for some users, but time will tell. Powered by Synology’s renowned DiskStation Manager (DSM), the DS425+ isn’t just a big box for your data; it’s a full-featured system offering a wealth of tools to tackle data management needs.
