Take-Two Estimates Xbox Series X|S Sales Between 27-29 Million

Microsoft has not shared updated sales data for the Xbox Series X | S in a while, and while it’s known that the Xbox consoles sell less than the PS5, it’s difficult to provide precise numbers. Analysts make estimates, but the accuracy of these figures can vary.
Take-Two’s Estimate on Console Sales
Big video game companies also track sales data to understand how many potential customers they have on each platform. Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has its own estimates.
According to the latest Take-Two Interactive financial report, approximately 94 million current-generation consoles (PS5 + Xbox Series X | S) have been sold worldwide. Since we have official sales data for the PS5, we can make an estimate for Microsoft.
PS5 and Xbox Series X | S Sales

As of September 30, 2024, the PS5 has officially sold over 65.5 million units. In the months since, it has likely sold a few million more, bringing the total estimate to between 67 and 69 million units at best, or just above 65 million at worst. In other words, Xbox Series X | S is estimated to have sold between 27 and 29 million units at most, assuming Sony’s sales have been minimal in recent months. The latest data from Microsoft, from June 2023, reported 21 million units sold.
It’s clear that Microsoft must continue its multi-platform strategy, especially after major acquisitions in recent years. Developing numerous exclusive games is not sustainable solely with Xbox and PC.
