Techland Cancels Two Games But Confirms No Layoffs
Techland, the well-known developer behind Dying Light, recently canceled two games in development. This has created a difficult situation for the company, which has reported record losses and is now focused on scaling back its operations.
However, the Polish developer is keen to emphasize that no layoffs have taken place during this process.
Techland’s Statement on Canceled Games and the Lack of Layoffs
In a statement shared with Eurogamer, a Techland spokesperson explained: “Game development is never a straight line, and sometimes fresh approaches are necessary to make great games.”
The spokesperson also addressed the absence of layoffs: “What’s important here is that none of the reported changes have resulted in staff reductions. Developers were moved to other projects and are working on a number of games in our pipeline.”
“OOur primary focus right now is to release Dying Light: The Beast for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. After the launch of Dying Light: The Beast, we will share more about future titles in due time.”
Details on the Canceled Fantasy RPG
One of the canceled games was a fantasy role-playing game that had the support of veterans from CD Projekt RED, Arkane, and Guerrilla Games. Almost nothing is known about it, except that the CEO had described it as a “new IP that is vastly different from what we have been doing for the past several years. We want to create a fully next-gen experience. A new fantasy epic set in a sprawling open world, fueled by the skills and experience we have gained as a team over the years, infused with new ideas, passion, and creativity.” Unfortunately, we won’t be seeing anything from this project.
