Tesoro Lobera Spectrum RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

Performance

Plugging in the Lobera Spectrum allowed me to finally see the LED lighting in action and I must admit, I’m very impressed. There’s a lot of vibrance to the colours and the maximum brightness is good enough to put on a light show in a well-lit room. At stock, you get this soft blue effect, more that comfortable for viewing the keys while you’re working.

If you want something with a little more flair, there’s a zoned fixed rainbow effect.

A flowing full-keyboard rainbow effect.

Customisable full colour illumination.

Reaction lighting, such as this ring effect.

Or a light-up on touch, with a faded delay effect. All very cool and you can spend as long as you like finding the colours that best suit your preferences.

Gaming on this keyboard is fantastic, although I wouldn’t have expected anything less from a well made mechanical keyboard. It’s getting harder and harder these days to find the differences in most mechanical keyboards, as by their very nature, they use uniform switches that rarely differ much from brand to brand. The Kailh switches in this keyboard may not be as well-known as the Cherry MX brand, but they’re certainly comparable. I know there are a few mechanical keyboard elitists out there who swear these aren’t as good, but in a blind test, I struggle to find a difference.

The black switches are a little heavier than the reds, so they need a little more force to fully depress them. One good thing about this is that the keys don’t bottom out as hard, which results in less unwanted noise from the keyboard. The black switches have a nice snappy return to them too and they’re great for gaming thanks to their linear motion. Those who play keyboard intensive games such as StarCraft II will no doubt love what the Lobera Spectrum has to offer.

Built-in multimedia controls, although only via an FN-shift are a welcome bonus, as is the USB and audio pass-through at the back. Being able to hook a headset directly into the keyboard comes in handy and has already saved me from having to crawl under my desk twice today.

There’s really little else to say about the performance, it’s exactly what I was expecting and is just another nice quality mechanical switch keyboard, nothing extraordinary, but nothing wrong with it either.
