The past week has had us all at the eTeknix building geared up for a graphics launch, with the new offerings from AMD due to launch on 22nd October.
I will be honest, i think the battle between AMD and Nvidia is fantastic, it reminds me of the good old days and how things used to be with a bit of friendly competition. Whereas lately it was generally AMD releasing the new ground breaking cards, and Nvidia doing the same, but slightly better. Not being a fan boy here, but that is simply the facts!
So now that you know that, you can only assume that the 6850 and 6870 being launched on Friday will be blown out of the water by something new from the green team. Our sources tell us that is exactly how it is, and it comes in the form of a card called the GeForce GTX 580.
From what we’ve seen, it seems that the new GF110 based card will feature a FULL 512 CUDA cores, 128 texture units and the thing that we’ve been waiting for a while – A speculated 512-bit memory interface.
We, at eTeknix have been waiting for a card with a higher memory bus for quite some time, and this rumoured card will give us just that, which in our eyes will show off Fermi’s FULL potential.
Whether this is all true, who knows? I’m guessing Nvidia does, and if it does turn out to be fact over fiction, I know what I’ll be asking Santa for Christmas!
