The Huge Discount on Cyberpunk 2077 on the eShop Was a Mistake, But CD Projekt Won’t Cancel Purchases
A massive discount for Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition appeared on the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop. The game was mistakenly listed at 75% off (at least in the U.S.), and fans quickly took advantage of the offer to buy the game.
Apparently, however, this was an error, and CD Projekt RED never intended to sell Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition at such a low price (which includes the DLC).
What Happened with the Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition Discount
The real discount for the sci-fi game should have been 42% — still decent, but clearly far from the mistaken one (from $17.49 back up to $39.99). Interestingly, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition also had an incorrect discount for a short time, but it has now been fixed to the proper 75% off rate.
Normally, when these kinds of errors occur, developers cancel purchases, refund buyers, and issue apologies. Of course, that’s not a popular move, and CD Projekt RED decided not to take that route, choosing instead to honor the purchases and let lucky buyers keep their discounted copies.
CD Projekt’s Response and Player Reactions
On social media, the studio explained:
The discounts for Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition displayed on Nintendo Switch 2 eShop in the Americas on December 22, 2025 were incorrect.
The situation is a result of an error we made when submitting the discount. We have corrected the error and new discounts have now been applied.
Purchases made at the previous discount rate are unaffected by this change.
Players praised CD Projekt RED for handling the situation gracefully.
In other news, Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 35 million copies as of late 2025, a significant milestone for CD Projekt Red, making it their highest-earning title and surpassing The Witcher 3’s performance in a similar timeframe.
