The iPhone 17 Pro Fades in the Sun, Especially in Cosmic Orange and Deep Blue

Some of the first buyers of the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are reporting a strange discoloration problem with their devices.
The launch of the new iPhone 17 Pro has already been marked by issues with scratches. Now, just a few weeks after its release, some early users are noticing a fading color effect on their iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. What began as a few isolated reports on forums like Reddit seems to be turning into a wider issue, raising concerns about the durability of Apple’s new phone finishes.

The issue seems to affect mainly two color versions: Cosmic Orange and Deep Blue. According to user reports, the loss of color usually starts around the camera module and slowly spreads across the aluminum frame of the phone. Interestingly, the matte glass back does not seem to be affected by this early wear.
Many photos shared online show a clear difference between the original color and the faded areas, making the problem easy to spot.
Several users suggest that exposure to sunlight could be behind the fading. Many affected owners said their iPhones began to lose color after being under the sun for only a short time. The most noticeable case is with the Cosmic Orange model, whose shade fades until it looks quite similar to Apple’s well-known Rose Gold color.
So far, it’s unclear how widespread the problem is or how many units are affected. Although Apple has not yet made an official statement, many expect the company to address the issue and possibly replace the affected devices. This year, the iPhone 17 Pro is becoming a real headache for Apple.
