iPhone Air Faces “Virtually No Demand,” Apple Cuts Production and Shifts Focus to Pro Models
According to several reports, Apple is drastically cutting production of the iPhone Air. The decision comes after consumer interest turned out to be much weaker than expected. Although early reports suggested the device sold out within hours of its launch in China, the overall reception in that region has been described as lukewarm.
Recent data from KeyBanc Capital Markets also shows there is “virtually no demand” for the iPhone Air. This lack of interest, combined with users’ “limited willingness to pay for a foldable,” has led to a sharp decline in projected sales.
Apple Shifts Its Focus to Pro Models
Due to weak demand, Apple is now redirecting its focus and resources toward the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro. Demand for the rest of the iPhone 17 lineup remains strong, but trends show that customers are increasingly choosing the Pro and Pro Max versions. Reports also note that the new AI features have not yet significantly influenced purchase decisions.
Multiple sources confirm this shift. According to Mizuho Securities, Apple will cut iPhone Air production by one million units this year while increasing production of the standard iPhone 17 models by two million. This lack of interest in the Air format doesn’t seem unique to Apple—Samsung also reportedly canceled its Galaxy S25 Edge due to low sales.
If these reports are accurate, one thing is clear: consumers value performance over design. For just $100 more, the iPhone 17 Pro offers far more than the iPhone Air. The Air, in comparison, compromises on several key features—especially battery life, which remains a major concern for users.
