The New PS5 Pro Is Lighter, Quieter, and More Efficient
According to the video below by YouTuber Austin Evans, the new PS5 Pro is lighter and quieter, but there are also some other differences compared to the previous Sony console model — though nothing major.
Identified by the model number CFI-7121, the new PlayStation 5 Pro looks almost identical in design, but its weight has been reduced by about 100 grams. This reduction seems to come from the use of lighter materials, such as an internal fan that is 40 grams lighter and a new plastic grill instead of a metal one.
Performance and Efficiency Improvements
Tests show that the new model uses 3–4% less energy while keeping almost the same operating temperatures. Most importantly, it is noticeably quieter, which makes gaming more comfortable, especially in quiet environments.
The hardware components remain unchanged in terms of CPU and GPU performance. However, the power supply is lighter and more efficient, and a few unnecessary parts have been removed from the motherboard.
There were rumors of a new DualSense version with a removable battery , but that does not seem to be the case. The controller that comes with the new PS5 Pro is almost identical to the previous model, although some internal changes have been made.
One of the two microphones has been removed, and the designers chose a different battery connector, probably to make replacement easier when needed. The overall weight remains the same, with only a one-gram difference.
