The New Razer Clio X Is a Headrest for Gaming Chairs That Adds Rear Surround Sound Without Headphones
Getting surround sound on a computer usually requires the use of headphones or the installation of several speakers in the room. Razer has presented a different proposal at the PAX West 2026 event. It is the Razer Clio X, a wireless headrest cushion designed to attach to desk chairs. Its main function is to provide direct rear audio channels without the need to wear anything on your head.
The accessory is designed to fit most office and gaming chairs with high backrests. To attach it, the device uses an adjustable nylon strap from 30 to 65 centimeters. Inside, the cushion has soft foam padding to maintain comfort during long sessions in front of the screen.
In terms of sound, the device includes a near-field speaker setup aimed toward the user’s ears. The system has two 38-millimeter full-range drivers. These are joined by 55-millimeter passive radiators, which are responsible for boosting low frequencies from the rear.

Sound processing is supported by THX Spatial Audio technology. This system uses sound-expansion algorithms to extend the soundstage in video games, movies, or music. The user can use the cushion in two different ways depending on their desk setup.
On the one hand, the device can work as an independent main speaker. On the other hand, it can be set up in surround mode together with a soundbar or an existing 2.0 or 2.1 speaker system. In this mode, the device handles the rear channels to create a continuous spatial audio environment.
For sound transmission, the device uses Razer HyperSpeed 2.4 GHz wireless technology. This connection aims to ensure very low latency when connected to a computer or consoles. This removes the need for direct cables to the transmitting device.
The power system has a rather unusual feature. The cushion does not have a built-in internal battery. Instead, it requires an external battery with USB-C PD 2.0 support which, surprisingly, is not included in the package. With a battery of this type connected, the manufacturer estimates up to 40 hours of use. The actual battery life will depend on the capacity of the battery being used and the volume.
The body of the cushion includes a rear compartment that holds an integrated USB Type-C cable. This pocket allows the extra cable to be stored and the external battery to be held in place. With this solution, the backrest remains tidy and free of loose cables.
The Razer Clio X is available for US$109.99 in the United States.
