The Price of Nintendo Switch 2 Memory Has Risen Sharply

Nintendo Switch 2

During the last quarter, the price of memory components for the Nintendo Switch 2 has increased significantly. The 12 GB LPDDR5X modules have seen a rise of about 41%, while the cost of 256 GB NAND memory has gone up by 8%.

This situation is clearly affecting Nintendo’s profit margins, reducing them for each console sold. As a result, the company’s stock price has dropped, returning to levels not seen since last May.

Rising Costs Hit at the Worst Time

Unfortunately, this is happening at the worst possible time for the Switch 2. The new console launched successfully, but it still needs to strengthen its market position in the long term, and a drop in profitability is far from ideal.

The main problem lies with the RAM — the modules have become much more expensive and now represent a larger share of the production cost per unit. This will likely push Nintendo to find new ways to manage the situation.

What Are Nintendo’s Options?

The increase in memory prices has already caused a decline in motherboard sales, and it was inevitable that the same issue would eventually affect game consoles too. This creates a real risk of yet another price increase.

Unfortunately, Nintendo doesn’t have many options available. The company can try to negotiate better deals with suppliers, choose cheaper components (where possible), or adjust what’s included in the Switch 2’s retail package to help reduce costs.
