Compared to the older OS5 firmware, Thecus’ OS6 firmware has proved to be far more user intuitive than before with a simplified layout and clearer menus on offer. Although these alterations have proved to be a major success to the entry level user, I still find it a little hard to justify the importance of Intelligent NAS and how it benefits the end user. Personally I prefer not to use it as it feels under developed, a point of which I have discussed with Thecus directly and they have assured me that they are working to update the interface to make it more user friendly once again.
Power Consumption
On the front of the box, Thecus note that the N2520 has a typical power consumption of 14W when idle and only 9W during its sleep state. What these figures don’t account for though is the power that a pair of drives consume, and quite understandably seeing as different drives use more or less power. With our Enterprise class Se drives, we know that the power figures we record will be much higher than those with a set of WD’s Red in-situ.
