Thermaltake 420mm TOUGHLIQUID 420 EX Pro ARGB Sync AIO Cooler Review

A Closer Look

The biggest selling point of this new and improved cooler has to be the fans, which are the flagship 140mm models from Thermaltake. What’s most interesting, aside from the fact that their previous version as the best fans on the market right now (I have 11 of them in my own PC case), is that they now have a magnetic locking daisy chain design.

There are anti-vibration pads on all four corners and on both sides of the fans.

On the side, you can see four pins which allow them to connect to the fan next to them.

While the other side of the fan has four contacts for those pins, and there are magnets built into the sides too.

Simply put the fans side by side, and they firmly lock together, and then you only have to connect a magic cable header to one fan, and boom, you’re ready to rock!

The radiator is huge, with room for 3 x 140mm fans on either side to suit your installation needs, and a small reservoir on one end, but otherwise, pretty slim beyond the main radiator dimensions.

Being an AIO, the tubing is pre-installed and the loop is pre-filled, but there is a refill port on one end of the radiator should you need it.

The tubing is quite long, given the size of the radiator, so it’ll be able to reach your CPU even in some of the largest cases on the market (many of which Thermaltake makes themselves).

The pump is quite tall, but not much bigger than the CPU socket, so it won’t conflict with your RAM or VRM configurations.

Plus, there’s some pivoting joints on the tubing here, allowing you to more easily orientate the pump on your motherboard.

The copper contact plate is massive, and very thick too, so it should have no issues covering any of the larger CPUs on the supported list.

Here you can see the cooler installed in our recent review of the Thermaltake CTE E600 MX PC case, and wow, does it look incredible! Now, onto the performance!
