Well, let’s not beat around the bush here, it’s a lot of money. It’ll set you back a wallet-busting £317.43 in the UK. In the US, it’ll set you back $349.99. I’m not going to tell you that’s good value, because it’s obviously one of the most expensive consumer cases on the market today. That being said, the cost is closely tied to the vast amount of included materials, so I wouldn’t say it was overpriced either.
OK, so this case is clearly not for everyone. It’s bloody expensive, it’s freaking massive, and it’s pretty darn heavy too. A case this size demands a big build too. You wouldn’t buy it for a low budget build, that’s for sure. However, if you’re looking for a case that can handle the latest enthusiast hardware, multiple graphics cards, huge fans, huge radiators and more, then it’s ticking all the right boxes.
So £300+ is a lot of money. However, this is a PC case built for handling systems that costs many thousands. It’s all relative really, and I’m sure it’ll appeal to the enthusiast crowd. The modders will love it too, thanks to its exceptionally modular design. Sure, you can remove the HDD bays, PSU shroud, and a few other bits. However, with a few screws, you can dismantle the entire case. The motherboard tray, the cooling brackets, the whole thing comes to bits. Handy if you’re eager to attack it with a Dremel and some spray paint. Again, not standard consumer stuff, but there’s a big modding scene out there that will love all of this.
It’s a tank, only slightly bigger, heavier and expensive. What you’re paying for is thick and heavy-duty build quality. The engineering and design are pretty fantastic too. Those 4mm tempered glass panels can’t be cheap, they’re size and custom shape won’t make them easy to produce. Then you’ve got the massive front and top panels, made from a fairly significant amount of aluminium. Thermaltake really went all out on this one, and it shows.
I really like this case, despite it not being something I would buy. It’s too big for me, and dare I say, too expensive. However, it’s built for a pretty small part of the market that wants something enormous and overbuilt. It’s up there with other titans like the Raijintek Enyo, Deepcool Tristellar, InWin 909, STRIX Helios, etc. You’re not short on massive PC cases these days, but few looks as bold as the Thermaltake A700!
