With the Thermaltake Smart RGB 700w retailing for around (or under) £60 this represents excellent value. When you consider that you are getting a 700w power supply that has patented RGB lighting effects, this really is quite impressive.

When you consider how much performance you get from this PSU and how well it provides it, you would honestly struggle to find anything better for less.

Overview

Thermaltake has again ticked all the right boxes with this product. Not only does it look good (particularly with the RGB lighting), but it also performs exceptionally well. Yes, the non-modular cables will be an issue to some and in addition, I think Thermaltake should make this far more notable on the packaging.

Despite this though, for the price range, this power supply operated at, the Thermaltake Smart RGB 700w power supply is nearly faultless.

Efficiency and Beyond

With this being rated as 80-plus, I must confess I am a little perplexed as to why Thermaltake didn’t push to get the bronze certification. The results we saw clearly indicate is more than comfortably falls into that price range, but perhaps that is a good thing. If it’s not bronze-rated on the packaging, that might not be reflected in the price.

Through all of our testing though, the Thermaltake Smart RGB 700w was not found wanting. A particular highlight was the OPP test in which it did fantastically well.

Should I Buy One?

If you’re after an inexpensive budget option for your power supply, this is definitely one of the best options we have ever seen. With 700w of power and Thermaltake’s RGB lighting, you are getting some exceptional value for money here. When you all into the equation the fantastic results this saw in our testing, it is really a fantastic power supply.

Yes, admittedly, it is non-modular and many people don’t like those compared to the more modern fully-modular designs. You are, however, only cable the cables you could realistically need with very little waste. We did note that the cables themselves are a bit short and as such this power supply may suit those who don’t prioritise cable management.

For less than £60 though, for a 700w power supply that can handle output up to a 1000w and can also do it at a near silver efficiency rating, there’s very little not to like about this.

Put simply, this is perhaps the best budget power supply we have ever seen!
