Thermaltake Riing Quad 12 Fan Kit Review

How Much Do They Cost?

Retailing for a price in the region of £130, the Thermaltake Riing Quad fan kit isn’t cheap. In fact, for three system fans, it may, on the surface, appear to be amazingly expensive.

What do you have to consider though is the amazing aesthetics, performance, and functionality of these fans. With a particular emphasis on the latter point. There is, to my knowledge, no other system fan kit currently available on the market which offers the same level of control as these do. Yes, they’re expensive, but nice things cost money!

Performance

In terms of performance, we do need to apply something of a seperation of church and state. Well, perhaps more accurately in this specific instance, a separation of aesthetics and execution. Why? Well, frankly they’d be too much to digest in one whole mouthful!

So, starting with performance, are these fans any good? Well, with a max rated CFM of 40.9, they can certainly shift some air. As you could see in our video, they provided some excellent airflow and in terms of fans, clearly do their job excellently.

In terms of aesthetics? Well, Thermaltake has taken the excellent design of the Riing Trio fan kit and taken it to a whole other level with the Riing Quad. They are, quite frankly, amazing to look at and thanks to the customization software (including Alexa support) really offer you some of the most comprehensive control features ever seen.

While either of these aspects would be amazing in themselves, to have them combined within one fan kit is just mind-blowing!

Acoustics

When testing system fans for acoustics, it can often be difficult to provide some accurate measurements. Largely because they’re connected to a PC that is also making noises.

With Thermaltake rating these fans at 25 dB-A while operating, in our test we found that a ‘real-world’ result was around 32-34dB-A. This level, in practical terms, means that these fans are exceptionally quiet. If you were, therefore, thinking that noise levels might have been the Riing Quad’s Achilles heel, you couldn’t be more wrong!

Should I Buy Them?

The Thermaltake Riing Quad is, without a doubt, the absolutely best fan kit currently available on the market. There is, quite literally, nothing that comes close to looking as good as these do. In addition, and as was clearly shown in our rough test, they’re not covering up for any shortcoming in performance. They operate every bit as good as they look.

Admittedly, the price tag is (or will be) something of an issue. You are going to have a hard time convincing the vast majority of PC component consumers to spend anything over £100 on system fans. If you do, however, take your builds very seriously, then you’re going to want the best and, at least in terms of fan kits, that’s undoubtedly what the Thermaltake Riing Quad is!

Pros

  • Amazing aesthetics (both with the LEDs on and off)
  • Some of the most advanced customization controls ever seen
  • Strong air movement performance
  • THE best chassis fans currently available on the market

Cons

  • None

Neutral

  • Too expensive for the vast majority of consumers
