At the time of writing, the Thermaltake Toughfan 12 fan can be purchased for £19.99, which, in my opinion, represents an absolute bargain based on what you get here! – When compared to other high-performance alternative fan designs that offer very similar specifications the Thermaltake Toughfan 12 is around a third less expensive and that, to us, makes it a truly excellent alternative option.
Offering some exceptionally high-levels of performance, as we noted at the beginning of this review, based on the aesthetics and specifications it would be disingenuous of us not to mention that Thermaltake is clearly firing shots towards Noctua with the Toughfan 12. It’s a high-performance fan designed for all-business that allows no RGB fanciness to get in its way!
So, with that comparison in mind, is the Toughfan 12 better? Well, while the comparative specifications are amazingly similar, we would perhaps suggest that in the grand scheme of things, Noctua possibly edges it in terms of air movement. In every other aspect, however, be it style, acoustics, or aesthetics, the Thermaltake Toughfan 12 is at least good and possibly better depending on which aspects you value most.
While we would not be willing to go as far as to say that the Thermaltake Toughfan 12 is the best high-performance fan currently available on the market, what we would concede is that it is at least as good as anything we’ve seen currently available while costing significantly less money.
Putting this into context, if you planned on replacing every fan in your system (with 5 hypothetically in place), to do this with the Thermaltake Toughfan 12 would cost you a maximum of £100. With many of the alternative high-performance options, you could easily throw another £50 onto that price, and, in the grand scheme of things, would you really notice any difference? – We don’t think so.
Put simply, if you value high-performance fans with a strong airflow and low noise output, the Thermaltake Toughfan 12 is an excellent option and, better still, they’re nowhere near as expensive as a lot of the alternatives in this market!
