As this is a gold-rated efficiency power supply, it does have rather high standards to meet in terms of how much power goes in versus how much it actually distributes to the system.
So, how did the Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 do? Well, frankly, remarkably well. This easily meets the remit of the ‘gold standard’ while (very briefly) touching on the territory required for it to make Platinum rating (which obviously carries a notable higher efficiency performance requirement).
It doesn’t quite hit platinum, but for gold certified, this absolutely smashes it out of the park!
While the PFC rating starts off a little sluggishly at 20% load (which is entirely usual and expected) it quickly picks up when you start asking this power supply to work harder.
Scoring above 0.95 at 80% load and above, this is exactly what you want to see from a good power supply.
Overall, the results provided through our voltage regulation tests were absolutely fine with no major inconsistencies and (more importantly) overall consistent results regardless of the load.
It should be noted, however, that the -12V did over-volt a little. This has pushed the deviance towards the 2% mark. This is, however, still entirely within acceptable remits and, quite frankly, this isn’t a particularly important rail any more with modern PC designs. Put simply, it’s a blip, but nothing to get in a tizzy about either!
