Thrustmaster GPX LightBack Xbox 360 Controller Review

Thrustmaster haven’t exactly broken the mould with their new controller, but what they have done is create a solid alternative to the standard Xbox controller, sure it may have a few gimmicks tacked on to it, but they don’t get in the way of its general day to day performance, plus you can disable the funky lighting system altogether if you wish. That being said, the lights do actually work and I’m sure that some people out there will find a way to put them to good use in their favourite racing game, for me personally, I just think they look cool.

Out of the two I have to say I like the Ferrari themed edition more, it has a much higher quality finish to it, not only in appearance, but how it feels to hold. The tough plastic feel of the black one was just a little too cheap feeling in my opinion. On the plus side, both controllers performed exactly the same as one another when it came to gaming, so if the black one is cheaper than the Ferrari edition, you’re only losing out on some extra style points.

The fact that they come with support for both PC and Xbox 360 is another bonus and the controllers also come with support for an Xbox 360 headset connection. Racing fans will love the feel of the analogue triggers too and with the addition of the + shaped D-Pad, which is leaps and bounds better than the standard one, this really is a great controller.

So if you’re looking for something a little different to get your racing on, an improved D-Pad to get your fighting games going or even a spare controller for when your friends are around, this is a solid all rounder. Sure there are better pads on the market, but not within this price range, which is why I am awarding the Thrustmaster GPX LightBack our Gamers Choice Award.
