Titan Z Review Reveals Why Titan Z Missed Launch Date

Rumours of the Titan Z’s demise are tricky to pin down, we expected the card to be available last week, but when it was a no-show at retail, we suspected that something big was up. Nvidia state Q2 as the release date and as far as we can tell, this is still true, but for now it looks like they’re doing some very serious tinkering to compete with AMD’s Radeon R9 295X2.

The $2,999 graphical powerhouse that is the Titan Z certainly has a few tricks up its sleeve, but when stacked up against the Radeon R9 295X2 it’s price tag seems almost comical, clocking in at double what AMD are charging. The benchmarks that have leaked online show a worrying picture, with the R9 beating the titan in some tests and the Titan Z winning a few others; pretty much what you would expect from two similarly priced graphics cards.

Obviously the Titan Z has some benefits from it’s massive bank of GDDD5 memory, and it also delivers a TDP of just 375W, making it 33W less power hungry than a pair of GTX 780 Ti’s in SLI and 60W less than a single R9 295X2, but unless you’re planning on running the card for about 10 years, you’re not going to recoup that money via your electricity bill.

Nvidia needs to get the power of the card up, performance up and the price significantly down, because until then AMD will be laughing their asses off.
