Torchlight II PC Review

I really enjoyed Torchlight II as a single player game, but I did find that things tend to become a little repetitive after a while. While I’m sure some people will love diving into this stylish fantasy world to hack and slash things to bits all by themselves, they will be missing out on the best component of this game if they do. Bringing a co-op partner into the mix is what makes Torchlight II such a joy to play, with its robust online or lan multiplayer options that makes finding or creating a game quick and painless, you have no reason not to.

With support for 2-6 player co-op it really is a bring your friends game. With its shared loot system and well balanced gameplay keeping everything entertaining as you scale up the number of players, the game gets better with each new player that enters the battlefield. The only thing I will point out is that even with just two players on screen, once everyone is fighting, enemies are swarming, your pets running around and magic being thrown around left right and centre, it’s like watching a firework display and hard to see who is doing what.

The level of content on offer here is impressive though with around 30 hours gameplay being easily filled on your first co-op playthrough, even more should you wish to try out some of the other character classes, pets and abilities. The option to “shuffle” the game world and re-generate the dungeons also gives you plenty of replay opportunities  If you really love the game, there is no reason why you could easily squeeze over a hundred hours out of the content on offer, both in single player and in co-op games.

It’s great to see another solid co-op game this year, with plenty of big titles hitting the headlines on both consoles and PC. If you’re a fan of a classic click-fest action game then Torchlight II is more than world checking out. If you’re a little unsure if this game is for you, why not check out the free demo on Steam.

The game not be to everyones tastes, but its already one of my top 10 favourite games of 2012, which is why I’m happy to award it with out Gamers Choice Award.

As a child still in my 30's (but not for long), I spend my day combining my love of music and movies with a life-long passion for gaming, from arcade classics and retro consoles to the latest high-end PC and console games. So it's no wonder I write about tech and test the latest hardware while I enjoy my hobbies!
