Toshiba AL15SE PR

Toshiba‘s AL13SE and AL14SE drives are very successful, but it is time for the next generation of enterprise performance HDDs. Toshiba announced the AL15SE series HDD which is the next generation of 10500 RPM enterprise performance drives. The new series offers up to an impressive 2.4TB which is a 33 percent increase when compared to the AL14SE series. It’s also the largest ever 10500 RPM drive which Toshiba built.

“The new AL15SE Series HDD provides higher capacity per spindle for optimal use in performance-oriented traditional IT applications and in mission-critical hybrid storage platforms. Also, IT operations running read-intensive applications may benefit from lower-latency,” says Noriaki Katakura, General Manager HDD Business Unit, Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH.

Toshiba AL15SE

Toshiba AL15SE is built for superior low-latency performance. The drive supports 12Gbit/s SAS dual-port interface to optimize the host transfer rate. All models utilize a space-efficient and power-saving 2.5-inch form-factor with a 15mm height.

Advanced format models support 4K native and 512e emulated sector technologies. The increase in areal density allows Toshiba to offer the AL15SE in capacities from 600GB to 2,400GB. The AL15SE offers both a 33% increase in capacity, but also a 15% increase in the sustained transfer rate. Now that’s impressive! The new 512n sector models increase areal density too and will be available in capacities from 300GB to 1,200GB.

Features

The new series features optional Sanitize Instant Erase (SIE) models and leverages Toshiba’s persistent write cache technology for robust data integrity in sudden power-loss scenarios. The models are designed for tier one mission-critical servers and storage systems, including hybrid storage platforms.

Availability

The new Toshiba AL15SE is currently sampling, but that’s all we know at this point in time.
