Transcend Announces 16GB DDR3L Memory Modules

Transcend might not be the first brand you think off when you look for memory modules, but they shouldn’t be forgotten. Something that speaks for that alone is that you’ll find Transcend memory modules in most NAS devices that use modules. Now Transcend announced another family member to their already long list of memory modules, the new 1600 Mhz U-DIMMs and SO-DIMMS with 16GB capacity and running on a low 1.35 voltage design thanks to the 1Gbx8 DRAM chips used.

The 1Gbx8 chips used help to maximize the memory capacity and optimize the use of rank number and space. The low voltage for DDR3 modules of 1.35V can help to reduce the power consumption with up to 20% compared to standard 1.5V. Maybe not something that makes the big different for a casual PC usage, but it will make a difference on large deployment and 24/7 running systems. It also helps to reduce the heat and thereby cooling needed.

The new modules are fully JEDEC compliant and undergo strenuous 64-bit kernel, single and multi-core testing to ensure that the quality is top and they carry the same Limited Lifetime Warranty that all Transcend modules do.

The 16GB DDR3L 1600 U-DIMM module has the part number TS2GLK64W6Q and the SO-DIMM module has the part number TS2GSK64W6Q. There was no word on pricing or availability yet.
