TSMC Speeds Up 1.4 nm Production and It Is Expected to Arrive Ahead of Schedule
TSMC‘s production of 1.4-nanometer chips could start ahead of schedule, which would bring its roadmap forward by almost a year.
According to a new report, TSMC’s 1.4-nanometer plant in Taichung could begin production ahead of schedule. More specifically, April 2027 is said to be the date marked on the company’s calendar, with mass production expected to begin in the second half of 2027.
TSMC Accelerates 1.4nm Production
For now, the information known about the new plant is promising. Construction began in October 2025, and it will have a total of four factories. Construction of the first factory is moving very quickly, and it is expected to be completed in early 2027. This would allow the company to begin production shortly afterward.
The second factory, meanwhile, has had its concrete foundation laid and work is moving on to the steel structure. In this case, it is expected to be completed in October 2027. Therefore, based on this information, mass production is expected to begin once this second factory is finished. This would improve on the original forecast, which had production starting sometime in 2028.
The other two factories are further behind. In fact, only the construction permit has been obtained for the third factory, while permission is still being sought for the fourth. Therefore, they are not expected to be ready until sometime in 2028.
Even so, as we have mentioned, TSMC’s 1.4-nanometer process appears set to arrive earlier than the company’s original schedule.
