Turtle Beach Enters Sim Racing Market With Direct Drive Wheel

As someone who plays a lot of truck sim, the sim racing wheel market is one I tend to keep an eye on just in case someone decides to make a proper wheel for truck sim. Unfortunately that still hasn’t really happened with the only exceptions being a prototype Moza wheel and a prototype Aerosoft wheel, though something that has happened is Turtle Beach has entered the sim racing market with a direct drive wheel.

Turtle Beach Enters Steering Wheel Market

Turtle Beach are probably best known for their gaming headsets though have branched out more recently into controllers including their Stealth Ultra controller and their VELOCITYONE flightstick for flight-sim, but now this product range is being expanded with a new VELOCITYONE FlightDeck as well as a VELOCITYONE Race Direct Drive wheel. Focusing on the steering wheel, this has been designed for Xbox and PC and looks to be packed with features that give both Logitech and Thrustmaster a run for their money.

It features a direct-drive wheelbase with the K:DRIVE force feedback motor, a Race management display with dashboard customisation for race details and integration for various games. Smooth Mag-Shift paddles as well as two additional analog paddles. A customizable pedal set including fully adjustable throttle, load-cell brakes and clutch pedal, and a detachable button box.

That’s a lot of very cool features, however it is Turtle Beach and if my experience with them is anything to go by, their products aren’t the best of quality. The wheel comes with a price tag of £629.99 which is a sizable chunk of cash though not as much as a similar set of equipment from MOZA for instance. Of course I can’t comment on the quality unless I actually got my hands on one, so I’m just going to hope that this thing holds up. If Turtle Beach can gain a foothold in the market, it should get Thrustmaster to up their game as I get the impression from the sim-racing community that they’ve fallen behind in recent years.
