Turtle Beach Recon 320 PC & Mobile Gaming Headset Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The price is easily the strongest feature of the Turtle Beach Recon 320. At just £59.99 from most major retailers, you’ll find that your wallet is very happy with the price vs performance ratio that Turtle Beach offer. I’m sure you may even find a better deal if you shop around, making these incredible value for money.

Overview

I knew this headset would be pretty decent, Turtle Beach have a reputation to uphold and while not terribly expensive, the headset’s in a price range where you certainly expect good performance for your investment. Sound quality is very good overall, sure it’s not the best quality, but this isn’t a £100+ headset and you’ll struggle to find anything that sounds better for the same price as the Recon 320.

Build quality is superb. The design is relatively simple overall, which means there are less things to go wrong. The headset is nice and lightweight, yet it’s surprisingly rigid in terms of design; there’s no chance this thing is going to slip off your head in a hurry. The Recon 320 does feel a little tight to wear at first, but the thick padding is forgiving and will wear in to the user after a couple of hours usage; after a few uses, you could easily forget you’re wearing it.

Desktop performance was very good through the USB cable, but being able to plug-in the 3.5mm cable and wear the headset as headphones is a big bonus. You can even use the detachable microphone for taking phone calls if you wanted to; although you may look a little strange wearing a boom microphone if you’re using it for calls while sitting on the train.

Pros

  • Crystal clear sound quality
  • Durable build quality
  • Comfortable fit
  • Understated, but stylish design
  • Very competitive price
  • Detachable and modular cables
  • Detachable microphone

Cons

  • None

Neutral

  • Treble levels are ever so slightly high on music, but this isn’t noticeable while gaming (this is a gaming headset, so I’m not going to mark it down for this)

“The Recon 320 may have a fairly simple design, but their lightweight construction, durable build quality and great sound quality make them an absolute bargain. Easily one of the best mid-budget gaming headsets on the market right now.”
