Twitch Has Its Biggest Year Yet!
I must admit that I have personally been very resistant to Twitch. Don’t get me wrong, I never necessarily had a problem with the concept, but I think I struggled to understand the appeal of watching someone play when I could just be playing a game myself. I have, however, developed something of an affinity for the low-end of streamers and throughout 2018 have grown a small number of people I enjoy watching and interacting with.
It seems, however, that I might not be alone in this regard. In a report via GamesIndustry, 2018 has officially been the biggest year for the company!
Massive Viewing Figures
In the announcement, Twitch has stated that the website is now attracting over 3 million streamers every month. In 2018, they have also added around 248,000 people to their affiliate program with just under 8 thousand going even further to ‘partnership’. Oh, and in terms of people actually watching, the streaming site has amassed 434 billion minutes of view time in this year alone!
The Future Is Looking Very Good!
With such a huge increase over 2018, it seems likely that Twitch is going to build on this even further. As such, 2019 is looking very good indeed! If it doesn’t manage to increase these numbers, it’s at least going to be a year of solid consolidation. Particularly as more and more people try to become the next big thing on the platform. What is, perhaps, the most surprising news is that despite only releasing in October, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has been the most watched content of 2018.
