Twitter Introduces Group DMs and Video Uploads

Twitter is launching group direct messaging and video upload functionality, in a move that incites competition with its rival, Instagram.
The direct messaging service allows users to message multiple people at once as part of a joint conversation, so long as intended recipients are following each other. The video function allows 30 second non-looping clips to be uploaded, designed to exist “alongside” Twitter-owned Vine, according to the company.

In an announcement on the company’s blog, Twitter said:
“We designed our camera to be simple to use so you can capture and share life’s most interesting moments as they happen.”
“In just a few taps you can add a video to unfolding conversations, share your perspective of a live event, and show your everyday moments instantly, without ever having to leave the app. Viewing and playing videos is just as simple: videos are previewed with a thumbnail and you can play them with just one tap.”
Group DM and video functionality are now available with the latest versions of the Android and iOS Twitter apps.
