Twitter Leak Suggest 'Super Follow' Update is Coming Soon

I think it would be fair to say that while social media can certainly open a lot of doors for content creators or ‘influencers’, there are currently very few means of actually turning that popularity into any form of tangible income. Yes, it’s possible through sponsorships and endorsements, but let’s face it, unless you’re doing exceptionally well and generating some amazingly high levels of traffic and engagements, those doors often remain stubbornly closed. – Following a report via Engadget, however, leaked information has suggested that Twitter is literally right on the verge of launching its ‘Super Follow’ subscription-based platform.

Twitter to Launch ‘Super Follow’ Feature?

While such a ‘Super Follow’ system has long been hinted and even heavily requested by the social media’s members, to date there are no actual means of easily monetising your channel. Following an extensive dig into the Twitter code, however, several references to ‘Super Follow’ have been noted that would suggest that the feature is set to be added in the very near future.

What is a ‘Super Follow’ though? Well, the short version is that it’s expected to take a similar system to something like ‘OnlyFans’, Patreon, or Twitch subscriptions where people can pay a fee to receive prioritised or exclusive content from the user. By this, the person creating the content can then generate an income based on the success of their channel and number of ‘Super Followers’.

What Do We Think?

Although pending confirmation, it’s understood that Twitter will have a rather high set number of requirements from users before they’ll be able to apply for a ‘Super Follow’ membership. This is understood to include the following criteria:

  • The user must be over the age of 18
  • They must, at a minimum, have at least 10,000 followers
  • The user must have an active Twitter account showing at least 25 posts from the prior 30 days of application

So the short version is, you already have to be pretty well established on the platform before you’ll be able to apply for this membership. Given the relative ease in which you can ‘purchase’ followers, however, I suspect that this is a system that will undoubtedly be open to some manipulation.
