U.S. patent office declares “Steve Jobs Patent” entirely invalid

This is the second time in less than 2 months where the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) declared apple’s patent as invalid. The first one was a rubber banding (over-scroll bounce) patent that was shared with the California court where a case was filed by Apple back in August for infringing this particular patent.

The “Steve Jobs patent” (U.S. Patent No. 7,479,949) covers a “touch screen device, method, and graphical user interface for determining commands by applying heuristic”. Originally it was filed back in April 2008 and granted in January 2009 by Apple. It was only recent that the USPTO issued a first office action to reject all 20 claims on the patent.

Although Apple may lose 2 important patents, they have already got thousands of other patents which concludes hundreds of multi-touch patents.
