There are enough big game engines out there: EA’s Frostbite 3, Crytek’s CryEngine and Epic Games’ Unreal Engine. Ubisoft are throwing themselves into the mix with their latest and greatest game engine the Anvil Engine. The Anvil Engine will power the next Assassin’s Creed game, Unity, and a recently released video demonstrates it is a very impressive looking game. The Anvil Engine has been used to recreate Old Paris with an “almost 1:1” scale. The demonstration video, see below, reveals impressive lighting features and graphical detail.
The biggest advance of the Anvil Engine is not just the graphics, but the AI control. Ubisoft have worked hard to provide more realistic, advanced and response AI. The new engine is supposed to make NPCs incredibly unique and impossible to predict: making the Assassin’s Creed experience more unique and challenging than ever before.
