Ubisoft Slows Free Currency Gain Siege X, Launches Most Expensive Skin

It’s just been a little over a week since Rainbow Siege X released, breathing new life into the game with a myriad of quality of life improvements to the now nearly 10-year-old game. And it seems that the game is already tangled in its first controversy, with the game apparently slowing the currency gain for free-to-play players and then by pure chance, I’m sure, releasing the most expensive skin to date.

Ubisoft

Well, is this even a surprise? No, I mean this is Ubisoft we are talking about, greedy schemes are kinda their thing. But this one is pretty brutal for players with the amount of Renown (Siege’s free currency used to unlock operators and many cosmetics, but not all) earned simply for playing matches has been gutted pretty severely, in some cases by 200% or 300%.

What makes this worse is the fact that even though this affects free-to-play players, it also hurts people who actually bought the game before the game went free-to-play. Many players are complaining that the game doesn’t even feel rewarding.

If you don’t know how renown works in Siege, let me explain. Previously in Siege, winning matches earned you a decent amount of Renown, maybe a couple hundred if it was a particularly good game, which helped unlock new operators or some new fancy cosmetics in the item shop that could cost up to 25,000 Renown. It wasn’t super fast, but it was at least doable.

Now, aside from the controversy, is Rainbow Siege X worth playing? Well, to be honest, I don’t know. I didn’t like the last one, so not much chance I’ll like the latest, but players generally seem quite happy with the quality of life changes and the enhanced graphics so far, so that’s nice.
