UHDTV specifications approved – 7680 by 4320 at 120HZ

Experimentation with 4K Quad HD resolutions is still only in its very early stages for displays and cameras. Only cinemas have really introduced the technology to the mainstream. The Japan Broadcasting Corporation, known otherwise as NHK, has finished developing the successor to 4K Quad HD already. The 8K resolutions will feature  Super Hi-Vision 7680 x 4320 display. The new standard will be called Ultra High Definition Television or UHDTV.

The International Telecommunication Union said the new standard was adequate gave approval for it. For those interested in how Super Hi-Vision works, the TV broadcast standard defines Ultra High-Definition Wide-Screen System with 4000 Scanning Lines and a frame rate of 120 FPS. NHK Science worked together with Technical Research Laboratories on the draft recommendation.

The 7680 x 4320 pixels resolution is 16 times higher than standard Hi-Vision HDTV systems. It is also paired with a 3D audio system made up of 24 loudspeakers mainly designed for Cinema use, not really for the average living room.
