While AMD was present in Beijing, China for the worldwide announcement of the Ryzen 5 processor line yesterday in front of select partners, they also apparently had a short teaser video that might have shown the upcoming Radeon RX Vega video card for a few seconds. The photos surfaced at ChipHell and what looked to be hastily snapped shots of a laptop running the video. This is the first time that a general look of the next generation video cards has been revealed. It appears to have a very monolithic enclosed design with a lighter silver or possibly white coloured shroud and an integrated backplate. The words “GPU tach” is printed on the side which could be an LED indicator above the power connectors for the GPU usage load and the video has the caption “It’s got a soul…” which could also be referencing the GPU tach feature.
Another photo shows the area towards the back of the possible RX Vega video card with the Radeon logo LED backlit along the side and the backside of the GPU area having exposed PCB despite having a backplate cover for the rest of the back area. Because of the shroud design, it seems to heavily suggest that it is using a blower style cooler that exhausts at the rear rather than a downward blowing fan since there are no exhaust holes along the side of the video card. The design itself seems very minimalistic, especially compared to NVIDIA’s current designs which takes inspiration from 3D polygonal mesh. AMD has yet to announce any hard launch dates for the RX Vega video card, but rumours suggest it won’t arrive until sometime in 2H 2017.
