USB Ports on PS5 Reportedly Melted at An eSports Tournament

Recently the Evo 2023 fighting game tournament took place in Las Vegas as the biggest fighting game event of the year but the gamers aren’t the only ones sweating as there have been reports of USB ports in the PS5 consoles melting.

Melting PS5 USB Ports

As reported by Kotaku, several attendees have reported on X/Twitter that the USB ports on their PS5 have been melting with several photos of melted USBs and USBs getting ripped out of the PS5. This is quite a concern that I personally have not heard mentioned before since the PS5’s release back in 2020. The PS5 contains three USB ports with one on the front and two on the rear near the heat exhaust which is likely the suspect for why these ports are melting. Many users reported that their cables were hot to the touch when removing them at the end of their matches. It’s strange how this hasn’t been noticed before though I don’t see the average user using their rear USB ports all that often.

Something even more interesting is that the Evo event is run by Sony themselves so for their own console to have this blunder at their own event is a bit embarrassing. Fortunately, it does mean that this issue will be seen first-hand and likely investigated and at the very least prevented for the future PS5 Pro.
