USB Powered 14″ Toshiba Screen

Shown at Computex 2011 there was a 14″ Toshiba monitor which supports a resolution of 1366 by 768 and this monitor runs off of a single USB 2.0 connection to a laptop or desktop computer. The technology used is a displaylink chip which is embedded into the screen PCB. This chip controls data and power flow. Data is sent encoded or decoded where necessary using a dynamic compression algorithm which minimises the power consumption of the device.

This screen is already on sale in the USA but is expected to arrive in the UK and Europe soon. The USB 3.0 models of this are expected to bring the ability to watch Blu Ray movies and movies at a higher resolutions. The USB 3.0 models of the screen are due for release in Q1 of 2011.
