Verbatim Launches Vx500 Portable SSD

Verbatim is a company we haven’t a heard a lot from for a while, but they aren’t gone. That’s proven by the Vx500 portable USB SSD which the company just launched. There is a rise in available portable SSD solutions as of late, and that’s something that will benefit you, the end consumer.

Verbatim Vx500 External SSD

The Vx500 is simple as such and it won’t blow anything or anyone away. But it is a nice drive. The Vx500’s casing is made of aluminium which gives it a nice look as well as durability. The material choice also helps with the weight, which is an important factor for a portable drive. The Verbatim Vx500 comes in at just 29 grammes. The physical size is 92 by 92 by 9 millimetres which allows for a USB bridge board and an M.2 module inside the drive.

Performance and Connection

Verbatim used the latest generation of USB for this drive, USB 3.1 Gen.2. When it comes to the connector, then we have the latest version too, the Type-C. The interface allows for up to 10Gbps, but we won’t see the full speed from this drive. The drive has an official rating of 440MB/s when writing and 500MB/s when reading. The included cable is a Type-C to Type-A, so compatibility with earlier devices is secured.
