Victoria 3 is Free to Play Following the Release of Charters of Commerse

To celebrate the recent and long-awaited release of Charters of Commerce, Paradox Interactive have decided to put Victoria 3 on a free-to-play weekend. Victoria 3 is a part of Paradox Interactive’s long line of renowned historical Grand Strategy games, with games like Hearts of Iron IV, Universalis IV, and my personal favourite, Crusader Kings 3.

Is the Charters of Commerce Good?

Now that the Charters of Commerce DLC has been out for a few days, and I’ve had enough time to put a good few hours into the DLC I can definitively say that the DLC is worth it and the free patch along side it is a smash hit.

The free patch and DLC now add a huge rework to trade and changes to companies, and some pretty significant changes to the warfare system. So now it’s actually possible to do trade warfare in the trade-focused game.

Company Charters: Grant charters to your nation’s companies, giving them an edge in international trade:

  • Trade Charters: Allow companies to trade their manufactured goods on the world market.
  • Investment Charters: Enable companies to establish regional headquarters and invest in foreign markets.
  • Colony Charters: Make it possible for companies to govern colonial regions.
  • Industry Charters: Give companies permission to expand their business into other types of production.

Monopolies: Encourage monopolistic industries, from efficient state monopolies to private company monopolies that dominate vital goods production. Diplomatic Treaties: Sign new agreements, including imposing uneven trade deals and setting limits on colonisation. Prestige Goods: Let successful companies produce high-quality goods like champagne, establishing your cultural imprint and gaining a competitive edge.

Free Weekend

But don’t just take my word for it: Charters of Commerce is now the most highly-rated DLC for Victoria 3. Not only that, but recent Steam reviews have jumped to Very Positive from their usual Mixed. If you’re interested in playing Victoria 3, the game is currently having a free weekend. If you happen to fall in love with it or get hooked (and I’ll warn you, this game is basically cheaper heroin), the base game is also 70% off, along with its DLCs.
