February 25th saw the release of the highly-anticipated Season 2 update for Call of Duty Warzone and I daresay that if you enjoy playing the game, you probably had to sit through that 25GB download for a fair amount of time. Following a report via Eurogamer, however, it would appear that the launch of this latest update has inadvertently broken a record!
With the masses of people looking to make the Call of Duty Warzone update, coming via Virgin Media, the internet provider has confirmed that the average daily user download rate spiked to a new record. Over a 24-hour period, it was confirmed that, on average, each of their customers downloaded roughly 25GB of data each. A number that is 3.5GB higher than the prior record set in 2020 and, based on the date, can only be indicative of people making this Season 2 update!
It has been noted, and particularly so for console users, that the Call of Duty Warzone Season 2 download was a little unusual in that in many cases (albeit, console-specific) it required a significantly greater amount of free storage space before it would begin downloading. As such, it’s entirely possible that this new record was exacerbated by people having to remove programs and then re-install them after. Albeit, it should be noted that this new record has also been compounded by the ‘lockdown’ effect with Virgin confirming that, when compared to prior years, the average user usage level has increased by 3.5GB over the last year anyway.
Still, if you were a Virgin Media customer on February 25th and downloaded this update, congratulations, you’re a record breaker!
