Watch Mark Zuckerberg Dump Ice Water over Himself

Opinions are split when it comes to Facebook’s founder Mark Zuckerberg, but I think we can all agree that this new trend is awesome. In the never-ending row of challenges extended on-line after daring them yourself, it’s now time to dump ice water over your own head.

This isn’t just some random challenge but has a specific purpose. To raise awareness for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a fatal neurodegenerative disease that attacks the brain and spinal cord, famous people are dumping buckets of ice water over their own head only to follow up on nominating 3 new people.

Zuckerberg was nominated by Governor Chris Christie and promptly accepted. Mark himself nominated Bill Gates, Sheryl Sandberg and Reed Hastings to follow the trend.

And it is working. As reported by Huffington Post, the Ice Bucket Challenge has increased donations to the ALS Association by 1000 percent.

Ice cold water eh? Somehow I doubt that very much. It’s almost autumn (Fall, if you speak American) in the States now and it’s still warm so that bucket of water he’s dumping over his head is probably not as cold as they’d have us believe.

I didn’t understand this challenge when it was associated to Cancer awareness. Why not just donate to the charity and skip this asinine ice water thing all together?

‘We’ like to talk about famous people. Also if ‘famous’ people talk about something, many others do to. If famous people do something, many others follow. So by throwing ice (or regular, we’ll never know) water over their heads they get attention and get allot of others to talk about it, others talk about ALS and ultimately donate because others do so too. It is a way to control the sheep, only the sheep need a little bit more to draw their attention than a simple ”donate now”.
