Western Digital Announces Network Breach

Western Digital has announced that its network has been breached by an unauthorized party who has gained access to multiple company systems.

Western Digital (WD), based in California, has identified a security incident involving their systems where an unauthorized third party has gained access to a number of their systems. WD has implemented various incident response efforts as well as an investigation with leading outside security and forensic experts. So far evidence suggests that the intruder has had access to some company data.

How Has This Affected Consumers?

Because of the attack WD has implemented new security measures to protect its systems and operations which have in turn affected some of its services namely, its MyCloud NAS service. Multiple users reported that they had issues trying to access MyCloud being met with a “503 Service Temporarily Unavailable” error. The status of the MyCloud service can be viewed here and at the time of writing the service is still currently down with an expected update sometime today.
