In typical fashion, we’re going to look at the packaging but to be honest, there isn’t a lot to it and that’s all involved in keeping the costs to a minimum. Instead of some fancy packaging that frankly is unneeded, a simple brown box with a barcode sticker houses the contents.
Opening the box up would normally find the drive itself and nothing more, but due to the size of the drive in terms of capacity, some other accessories are included too. This includes an expansion PCI bracket, quick install guide for the SATA Host Bus Adapter and the adapter card itself.
The drive comes inside a vacuum sealed anti-static bag and is sandwiched between two moulded pieces of plastic for the best protection when in transit.
Bundled with the drive is a Highpoint Rocket 620 2 channel PCI-Express controller card but we are told depending on the retailer, these may not come included with every drive and is simply luck of the draw. The card uses the PCI-Express x1 interface and runs using a Marvell controller chip. For users who don’t have a PCI-Express x1 slot, you can use this card in any other PCI-Express slot as it will work in those slots too.
The rocket 620 card has two SATA ports on the end of the card and is perfect for users who may have slightly older motherboards which don’t feature SATA III ports and therefore, performance will be hindered.
