One of the few amazing things about the updated VelociRaptor is its compact size, with up to 1TB of space squeezed into the 2.5″ form factor. There is obviously going to be a slight sacrifice somewhere and this is found in the drives profile measuring in at 15mm – twice that of the Neutron SSDs we recently looked at, but this is to be expected from a drive of this calibre.
Flipping the drive over, the control board is mounted entirely on the outside of the drive with a single link going to the internals. In the middle of the PCB poking through the cut out we can see the base of the motor that drives the three platters up to their amazing 10,000RPM.
