Why Mario Kart World Doesn’t Include Characters from Other Series, Explains Producer Kosuke Yabuki
Producer Kosuke Yabuki addressed why Mario Kart World doesn’t include characters from other series in an interview, explaining that including characters from other games didn’t align with the spirit of the franchise.
“As developers, it would have seemed incongruous to add characters from other games to this universe,” Yabuki said. “And it didn’t seem necessary, given everything we could already do with Mario.”
“We inevitably wonder how players will perceive this cast. But there are so many characters and so many costumes that there’s sure to be something for everyone.”
No Crossover with ARMS Characters
During the interview, Yabuki was also asked whether he had ever considered including ARMS characters, a title he previously produced. He responded with laughter, indicating there is no chance of seeing Spring Man or Ribbon Girl racing in karts.
Unlike Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which concluded with Sora and a roster of nearly ninety characters, Mario Kart World does not take a celebratory approach. Instead, it remains focused on the Super Mario Bros. universe.
In other Mario Kart World news, it was revealed that the game was built by 300 developers, twice the size of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe team.
