Nintendo have announced that their Wii U console has seen a significant boost in sales after recent price cuts. In August Nintendo chopped $50 off the price of the Wii U making the deluxe bundle with 32GB of storage cost $299 instead of the $349 it was priced at before. They also launched a limited edition Legend of Zelda bundle alongside that price cut which has proved popular too. Nintendo claim a massive boost in sales as a result but Engadget suggest their figures and statements are dubious. Based on NPD’s numbers for the Wii U sales, the number is more like a 100% increase in September over August. That said a 100% month to month increase is still double the number of sales which is hugely impressive for a console that has, as of yet, failed to capture the attention of console gamers.
Nintendo also reported that the 3DS finished September as the best selling console system in the USA. That means it outsold the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Hardly surprising though given that Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 sales are dropping because the launches of the next generation consoles are now imminent.
