Windows 10 Anniversary Update Causes SSD Freezes
Microsoft has revealed that a number of PC users have experienced freezing issues when installing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update on solid state drives (SSDs), and advises affected users roll back to the previous version of the operating system, which can be performed easily within the first ten days after installation.
“Microsoft has received a small number of reports of Windows 10 freezing after installing the Anniversary Update on systems with the operating system stored on a solid-state drive (SSD) and apps and data stored on a separate drive,” Microsoft forum moderator Basith M writes. “This issue does not occur when starting Windows 10 in Safe Mode.”
Should you experience such issues, Microsoft has the following advice to roll back the previous version of Windows 10:
Method 1: Using the Recovery Console
- Restart your PC. When you get to the sign-in screen, hold the Shift key down while you selectPower > Restart.
- After your PC restarts to theChoose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Go back to the previous build. If you don’t see this option, try Method 2.
Method 2: Using the Settings app from Safe Mode
- Restart your PC. When you get to the sign-in screen, hold the Shift key down while you selectPower > Restart.
- After your PC restarts to theChoose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- After your PC restarts, you’ll see a list of options. Select 4 or F4 to start your PC inSafe Mode.
- Open theSettings
- SelectUpdate & security and then the Recovery
- Under “Go back to an earlier build”, click theGet started button and follow the instructions.
This advice from Microsoft is useless! I recently applied the AU and now suffer from multiple failures that cannot be fixed. The AU deleted all of the saved reset points during it’s installation so there is no place to go back too. Microsoft continues it’s lies as it always has since it’s inception.
I was not experiencing any issues, but I do have a SSD in my laptop so I rolled back.. Absolutely ZERO problems rolling back to the previous version. Thanks Microsoft for the heads up!
Why did you roll back? It clearly says in the article that it only affects systems with apps stored on a separate drive.
You rolled back for no reason.
And this is why Automatic forced updates are a bad idea microsoft. You are beta testing shit with peoples personal things and causing all kinds of damage.
Noooooo Vista still holds that crown.
