With the release of Windows 10, Microsoft shifted their bread and butter operating system business into a software as a service model. This has meant large feature updates with smaller ones interspersed over the year. Following the Anniversary update last year, this year we have the Creators Update which brings in a number of nice features. Though it is set for official mainstream release next week on April 11th, you can manually upgrade today if you so choose.
To help reduce their testing, ensure more bugs are caught and showcase improvements, Microsoft started a new Windows Insider Program (WIP). Insiders get earlier access to updates and today, they received the Creators Update. Version 1703 or build 15063.0 as the Creators Update is known, can be installed by opting into the Insiders Program today with the latest version of the Window 10 Update Assistant.
Luckily for those of you who don’t want to stay in the sometimes unstable Insiders Program, you can opt out right after and still keep the Creators Update. Simply select “Keep giving me builds until the next Windows release” in the Settings panel for the WIP and you’ll get kicked out of the beta testing after the update goes live next week. At this point, the Creators Update is already set in stone so there is little risk of getting a sneak peek a week early.
