Windows 11 Gamers Warned to Avoid 2022 Update!

Earlier this week, Microsoft officially confirmed the roll-out of its 2022 update for Windows 11. Representing the operating system’s first major revision since its release last year, anticipation was clearly high that it would be bringing with it not just a whole host of new features and improvements, but generally speaking, more optimisations to make Windows 11 run better than ever!

Will that actually be the case though? Well, following a growing number of reports on Reddit, it seems not. In fact, Windows 11 gamers are currently being warned to, for the moment at least, avoid the 2022 update as it seems to be making performance worse!

Windows 11 2022 Update May Make Gaming Worse!

Reports of the 2022 update making Windows 11’s gaming performance worse first started appearing online when the update was initially made available to ‘Insider’ members earlier this Summer. – Following its formal roll-out, however, these reports have increased quite significantly suggesting that despite the fact that it’s now available to all, Microsoft didn’t get around to fixing the bugs within it.

So, with that in mind, what problems are the 2022 update creating? Well, some of the most commonly cited include:

  • Higher than prior CPU loads (resulting in a drop-off in gaming performance)
  • Audio glitches/errors
  • System crashes
  • Blue screen of death (BSOD)

Additionally, some Nvidia users have even reported notable drop-offs in their GPU performance.

While it’s likely that this is just a somewhat vocal minority experiencing problems, the advice still remains clear. For the moment, it might be a good idea for those of you on Windows 11 to give this update a pass for a few weeks until Microsoft can finally look to get them resolved. You can do this by going into your update settings and requesting an update pause for anything up to 5 weeks (4 weeks should be fine).

Do this sooner rather than later though as with the 2022 update now rolling out, you’re not going to want to have this applied by accident!

Additionally – Do not confuse this with the recently released Nvidia GeForce 517.48 Game Ready Drivers! – This Windows 11-specific fix is (so far as I can tell) not applied in this more generic graphics card driver update.

What do you think? – Let us know in the comments!
