Microsoft’s Tami Reller, Vice President of Marketing, has been bragging to V3 and IDF 2013 that the Windows 8.1 RTM has already surpassed 2 million downloads. That number has been boosted by the fact Microsoft reversed its decision to offer TechNet and MSDN subscribers access as late as October 18th. That initial decision infuriated many developers as they couldn’t get the legitimate copy of the OS that they needed to successfully update their programs and apps before the official consumer launch which is also on October 18th. Just four days Microsoft reversed that decision, making the Windows 8.1 RTM available to TechNet and MSDN subscribers and 4 days later the Windows 8.1 RTM rushes past 2 million downloads.
“It’s a big week this week for Windows 8.1; we’ve seen incredible uptake already. So far on Windows 8.1 we’ve seen more than two million downloads, so it’s definitely getting a bit of chatter out there in the marketplace.”
Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 will be unveiled on October 18th next month and the OS is expected to give Windows 8 a much needed boost by fixing and tweaking many of the things users didn’t like about Windows 8.
