Recently there has been talk of a Windows 8 beta build that has been released/leaked onto the net. These rumours are false and the latest leaked build is actually a long way off with a build number of 7959. It would appear Microsoft release new builds as often as every day excluding holidays. The build number has only recently reached the 8000 mark, between April the 29th and May the 12th. If you cast your minds back to the famous Windows 7 beta, you’ll remember they were numbered Beta 7000, RC 7100 and the RTM was 7600 and is what we are currently using now.
Microsoft may (if they decide to) use a completely different set of numbers for the Windows 8 builds, but it gives us a rough idea of how far along they are in the manufacturing process. We can only hope that the rumoured late 2011 early 2012 release dates are correct.
